Regional Museum of Local history

      

Regional Museum of Local history is the oldest museum, founded in 1926. It is located in the building, being the historical monument. This museum is dealing with completing, storage and popularization of historical and cultural monuments of the Murmansk region. There are 17 halls in the museum.  

Exposition “Nature of the Murmansk region” presents subsoil riches of the Kola Peninsula, materials on Kola super-deep well, being recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records, materials on flora and fauna.  Exposition devoted to the history of the region contains archeological monuments, original household items, traditional industry tool of Saami and Pomor people, dwelling indoor scene, miniatures of the church and Kola fortress, article of commerce of the past centuries, objects on construction of railway and the city of Murmansk.   

Post – war period of the region’s history is shown by the materials on recovery of the economy of the Murmansk region in 1945-1960, economic development of the region (fishery, mining and chemical industry, non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy, energetics, transport, agriculture and forestry), science and culture.
